Gallaghers Steakhouse is a classic full-service steakhouse nestled in the Theater District on West 52nd Street, offering a traditional New York dining experience with a steady hum of activity that blends old-school charm and lively urban energy. It’s the kind of spot where the gleam of polished wood booths and an open kitchen create a dynamic atmosphere—bustling without feeling hurried, making it well suited for both business lunches and celebratory dinners.

The menu centers firmly on quality aged beef, with standout options like the Porterhouse for Two, Rib Steak, and other generously portioned cuts that attract diners looking for an authentic steakhouse meal. Complementary side dishes such as creamy mashed potatoes and French onion soup fit nicely with the hearty mains, while desserts like Key Lime Pie and NY Cheesecake round out the meal in a straightforward, familiar way.

Gallaghers feels most alive during lunch and dinner hours when the bar and booth seating fill steadily. The bar area is a comfortable spot for solo visitors or pairs who want to enjoy classic cocktails like the 52nd St Old Fashioned alongside bar snacks such as fried calamari or steak tartare. The open kitchen adds to the immersive experience—watching the kitchen rhythm unfold contributes to the overall vibe without overwhelming the dining room.

The service tends to be polished and attentive without intruding, often praised by guests who appreciate knowledgeable staff ready to guide selections from steaks to wine pairings. Given its location and ambiance, it appeals to a mix of theater-goers, local office workers, and travelers seeking an iconic New York steakhouse experience with a touch of historical continuity in the neighborhood.

For those considering a visit, weekdays around lunchtime can offer a less crowded, relaxed setting, while evenings bring the energy up a notch with larger groups and special occasions. Reservations are recommended for dinner, especially around holidays or weekends, as the place can fill quickly with regulars and visitors alike eager for that classic NYC steakhouse meal.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ An Unforgettable Night at Gallagher’s Steakhouse Gallagher’s Steakhouse delivered an absolutely top-tier New York dining experience from start to finish. We shared the Porterhouse for Two, and it was nothing short of perfection—beautifully cooked, full of flavor, and exactly what a classic NYC steakhouse should be. We started with a Caesar salad, crisp and perfectly balanced, followed by a baked potato that was hearty, fluffy, and done right. Paired with a great bottle of wine, the meal felt timeless and indulgent in the best way. What truly made the night exceptional was Timothy at the bar. His service was outstanding—attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely warm. He elevated the entire evening and made us feel welcome from the moment we sat down. Thanks to him, this wasn’t just dinner, it was one of the best nights we’ve had in NYC. Gallagher’s is the definition of a classic steakhouse done right. Incredible food, great atmosphere, and service that sets the standard. Highly recommended.

If you want to experience really good steak visit Gallagher’s steakhouse. On their menu, daily, they offer a 3-course meal for lunch at a surprisingly low price! We enjoyed lunch here and we were so impressed with the quality of food, staff, and the feel in the dining room! Open view kitchen which made it feel more immersive into the classic cooking style. And all the service staff are in black and white dress suits which made us feel elegant and bougie! Love how the bread basket comes with a few different types of bread and the butter comes out on a little plate which is very fancy and delicious butter. They are known for dry aging steaks and it definitely looks like they know what they’re doing There’s a whole room just for this aging process. It’s recommended to make a reservation no matter what time, however the bar is open seating and full menu served there! We will be returning to enjoy a famous Gallagher martini with our steak

I had not been to Gallaghers since I was a teenager in 1978 but I knew that I wanted to take my family there for Christmas Dinner this year. So much so that I made our Christmas dinner reservations on Labor Day 2025. GALLAGHERS DID NOT DISAPPOINT!! We had a wonderful dinner with drinks, fantastic appetizers, STEAK and sides and desserts! All four of us were saying what a SUPERB meal it was. Among the appetizers: the star - shrimp cocktail. We also recommend the shrimp and lobster dumplings. The 4 of us were quite boring with all getting the filet mignon which was PERFECTION. Our sides included a special side of the day creamed sweet potatoes (so good), sauteed mushroom, mac n cheese and broccoli rabe. We finished with desserts: banana split (OMG), creme brulee, key lime pie and a slice of famous NY cheesecake. Even though it was Christmas Day and it was BUSY, we never felt rushed or hurried. Special shoutout to our outstanding, veteran (30 year service pin!) server Cornelius ("Connie"). He was so kind, personable and attentive. Many thanks and Merry Christmas for a memorable holiday feast!

I stopped in here for lunch with a friend on Saturday. We didn’t have reservations but luckily they had some availability. There is a small bar area in the middle of the restaurant & lots of booths along the walls. I started with the beef carpaccio & my friend went the French onion soup which he raved about. Louis & Armando were our servers & when I asked Armando if he would recommend the French dip sandwich or the lamb chops he recommended the ribeye instead. My friend liked the sound of that & that’s what both ended up ordering. The steak melted like butter in your mouth. We also shared a side order of Mac & cheese (it was that large). The house made steak sauce was excellent. It can be a bit pricey but they do offer a lunch prefix of three courses for $34. I can’t wait to go back.

Atmosphere & Seating: I visited for a Friday lunch and was pleased to be seated right away. While we didn't have a reservation, we were able to grab two seats at the bar side. The ambiance was great—bustling but refined, making for a nice mid-day outing. Service: The service staff was exceptional. Our servers were very attentive and professional throughout the meal, clearing dishes promptly and checking in frequently. This was definitely a highlight of the experience. Food & Value: We opted for the \$34 per person Prefix Lunch offering excellent value for the location. The Manhattan Clam Chowder was a great start—well-seasoned and satisfying. However, the entrees were uneven. The salmon tasted underwhelming, lacking a distinct flavor profile. The filet mignon was served well-done and was acceptable, but nothing remarkable. The included dessert was also just so-so. Overall Impression: The price point is affordable, and the ambiance combined with the attentive, professional service makes this a strong contender for a casual business lunch or friendly get-together. However, if food quality is your absolute priority, I would likely try something else if I were to return. The value and service are the stars here, not the execution of the main courses.

Gallaghers is ranked No.73 on the World’s Best Steak Restaurants for 2025. The restaurant has been in operation since 1927 and serves steaks in a classic NYC setting with nice interior decor and great atmosphere as you would expect of a New York steakhouse (been to Keens previously during my last NYC visit). We ordered the Manhattan Clam Chowder, Tomahawk Steak for 2 and a Mac and Cheese side to go with the steak. Portions were huge, generous and stomach fulfilling for us. The steak was well cooked to a medium rare and it was juicy and delicious. We were served by Tim and John during our visit, and they were very friendly and attentive. Special shoutout to Tim, who was always with a smile and made sure that we were enjoying ourselves at the steakhouse. Keep up the good service and kindness! Gallaghers is definitely a steakhouse to visit in NYC in my books. However, if this was a 5*, Keens will be slightly higher in my books, like a 5.5*. Will recommend!

Review of the lunch menu only, which is served daily including on weekends: Fantastic quality and value given the location and price. Though the portion of the (medium rare) sliced filet mignon was quite small, the tenderness of the meat was exceptional and salted perfectly with no additional seasoning needed. The provided house sauce paired well with the potatoes (and any well-done steaks). By the time I finished the cheesecake (which was also excellent), I was quite stuffed from the bread, soup, and sides. Service was prompt, professional but also friendly. Definitely impressed with the overall value and would recommend to anyone staying near Times Square.

Had dinner at Gallagher’s Steakhouse with friends visiting from Hawaii, and it was a fantastic throwback Vegas experience. The restaurant has that old-school Rat Pack charm, and our server welcomed us quickly with great service. We started with shrimp scampi (a hit with the table) and a perfectly balanced wedge salad. The star of the night was the tomahawk steak — cooked beautifully, seasoned just right, and perfect for sharing. We finished with the warm toffee pudding topped with vanilla ice cream, the ideal way to end a steakhouse meal. Great food, classic atmosphere, and a memorable night all around. Gallagher’s is a solid choice for anyone craving a timeless Vegas steakhouse experience.
